Lambourne Green Lanes
For a couple of hours greenlaning in West Berkshire we followed steps 52 (Stanmore) to 88 (Lambourne) from Total Off Road magazine road book, October 2015.
The track follows the edge of the field and there are early challenges of quite deep ruts and a few steep side slopes. After that the track becomes tamer but quite narrow between the trees. Hopefully our passing will have trimmed the spring buds so that the “shinies” won’t get so scratched!
We had to stop at one point and remove a fallen branch – luckily we had remembered to bring the bow saw.
By step 58 you are really out in the English countryside and so in true British fashion we stopped for a picnic. Lovely wide-open views with “mares-tails” criss-crossing the contrails promising the fine weather will stay for a while.
There is a strange little diversion off the farm track at step 62, but it’s easy enough to find the right of way.
We drove through the lovely villages of Brightwalton, Great Shefford and East Garston before ending our journey at the Red Barn.
As you can see, the poor Landie gained a few battle scars this time.
