After spending the morning by the pool at The Riviera it was time to move base.
We headed out of Palm Springs and then up into the San Jacinto mountains. The temperature was markedly different – unsurprising as the road reached 6,000 ft above sea level.
We stopped at Idyllwyld for lunch at a truly authentic restaurant serving real home cooked food.
Poor Gordon, who had been fancying a Cobb Salad for days suddenly had to choose between that, prime rib and French Dip. We had a great lunch, then a wander around the town and then got back on route.
We got to the Anza-Borego desert just as the sun was going down. It was dark by the time we arrived at La Casa (del Zorro) at Borrego Springs, but this is without doubt our favourite hotel of the trip.
